Orlondo Otis Hundley Speaking at Schenectady City Council

Orlondo Otis Hundley

Speaking at City Council, I addressed the urgent need for a consolidated election cycle for Schenectady City Councilors and for reclaiming local revenue currently extracted through parking meters and enforcement contracts. A consolidated election cycle would increase voter turnout, reduce administrative costs, and strengthen democratic accountability by ensuring City Council elections align with broader municipal participation. Low-turnout, off-cycle elections weaken public trust and concentrate power among insiders, while consolidation empowers residents and creates a more representative City Council for Schenectady.

I also called for reclaiming parking meter and enforcement revenue currently controlled or siphoned through third-party arrangements involving LAZ Parking and the Metroplex Development Authority. Parking meters and related fees should serve transportation access, street safety, and neighborhood investment—not function as revenue streams for outside operators or quasi-public authorities. Millions of dollars generated in Schenectady leave the local economy each year instead of being reinvested into sidewalks, road safety, public transit, and downtown services.

Consolidating election cycles and reclaiming parking revenue are about the same core principle: local control. When elections are accessible and revenue stays local, Schenectady can lower costs, improve transparency, and keep public dollars circulating in the Upstate New York economy. These reforms strengthen democratic participation, restore fiscal responsibility, and ensure City Hall works for residents—not third parties or special interests.

Mayor of Schenectady 2027

Orlondo Hundley is a 28-year-old resident of Schenectady, NY, who is currently running for Mayor of Schenectady in 2027. He has been vocal about the need for fair allocation of tax revenue, specifically regarding Metroplex, a development authority that collects millions of dollars in sales tax annually without direct accountability to voters. Hundley argues that this revenue should be used to benefit local residents, rather than funding luxury projects. He is a 2015 graduate of Schenectady High School and Criminal Justice Graduate of SCCC.
